Valentine’s Day, the most romantic day of the year, is fast approaching, and we want to ensure you don’t break the bank expressing your love. According to National Retail Federation, consumer spending is expected to reach $21.8 billion this Valentine’s Day. These inexpensive Valentine’s Day ideas will make your loved one feel special. After all, it’s truly the thought that counts.

Skip the Check - Cooking your own gourmet meal is always an option, rather than eating out on Valentine’s Day. Your grocery bill will most likely be less than a dinner for two and last more than one meal. An extra benefit is spending time with your loved one while you prepare the meal. You’ll make lasting memories and it’s a fantastic way to bond.

Plant a Seed - Flower bouquets are beautiful, but their shelf life is short. Skip the markup on a dozen red roses and give the gift of a living, growing plant. The price may be comparable to a bouquet, but you’re getting more bang for your buck because of the longevity. Another idea, decorate a pot and plant some seeds together. Don’t forget to treat it with tender love and care.

Recreate the First Date - Take a trip down memory lane by recreating your first date together. Was it dinner and a movie? Bowling? Homecoming dance? Try to recall the details and replicate them. Watch the same movie from your couch and re-make the meals from the restaurant menu. Nothing says “I love you” like remembering the first time you met.

P.S. I Love You - Handwritten letters are one example of a love language. Skip the fancy card that will never actually say what you want to express and write your loved one a letter. Include topics like why you love and appreciate them and what the holiday means to you.

A Day Late, A Dollar Saved  -
Similar to Christmas and Halloween, Valentine’s Day merchandise drops significantly in price the day after the holiday. You can usually find items like chocolate and teddy bears marked down to half price. If you and your loved one don’t mind doing gift exchange a day later, this can save you a few extra bucks.

Whether you hand-write a letter or recreate your first date, special moments are priceless. Save money on your gift and spend time with the those who matter most.
