What To Do If You Suspect Fraud

  1. Report the incident to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Identity Theft Hotline:
  2. Contact us to report the incident.
    • Call 1-888-822-7333
    • We will walk you through next steps for your accounts.
  3. Report to local law enforcement.
    • File a report with your local police where the scam or identity theft took place.
  4. Review recent activity
    • Go through your account transactions and dispute any charges not familiar.

  1. Protect your login info
    • Never share your online banking username, password or PIN. CapFed®, or any other legitimate company, will never as for this information.
  2. Watch for red flags
    • Be cautious of urgent messages, misspellings, unexpected calls or requests to act immediately.
  3. Monitor your account regularly
    • Check your accounts often. Report unfamiliar transactions right away.
  4. Keep your devices secure
    • Use strong, unique passwords, enable multi-factor authentication and keep devices updated with latest security patches.
  5. Verify before you trust
    • If you receive a call, text or email from your bank or company that you weren't expecting or sounds suspicious, don't reply or click any links. If you receive a call that you are concerned about, hang up and call our offices directly or visit a branch.

Dispute a Debit Card Charge

If you notice an incorrect or unauthorized charge on your Capitol Federal® True Blue® Debit Card, follow these steps to dispute it:

  1. Review Your Transactions: Check your account for any unfamiliar charges. Ensure the charge is not from a merchant you recognize or a recurring payment you may have forgotten.

  2. Contact the Merchant: Reach out to the merchant directly to resolve the issue, as they may be able to correct the charge.

  3. Submit a Dispute: If the merchant cannot resolve the issue, or the transaction was fraudulent, you can dispute the charge by doing the following:

    • Call Customer Service at 1-888-8CAPFED to report the charge.
    • Visit your nearest Capitol Federal® branch for assistance.
    • Send a secure message with the details on True Blue Online® banking.
  4. Provide Details: Be ready to share the date, amount, and details of the disputed charge.  

Once your dispute is submitted, Capitol Federal® will investigate the charge and keep you informed of the resolution process.

Enroll in Visa® Purchase Alerts

Sign up to participate in Visa® Purchase Alerts and establish specific alert triggers for any qualified Visa® transaction meeting your criteria. Alerts are real-time, and an email will be generated within seconds to the email address you provide.

Transaction alerts include:

  • Purchase thresholds
  • International transactions
  • Card absent transactions, such as internet and phone transactions

This service is available to all True Blue® debit cardholders and Execuline Visa® cardholders.

  1. Log in to True Blue Online® and select "Documents".
  2. Accept the eStatements Terms and Conditions.
  3. Update your email, if needed and select the accounts for eStatements.

To View eStatements:

  1. Select "Documents". A new window will open.
  2. Choose the account to view and print, download, or view from this page.

What To Put In a Safe Deposit Box

Now that you've opened a safe deposit box with Capitol Federal®, what will you put in it?

Suggested items to store in your safe deposit box:

  • Copy of your Will
  • Copy of your birth certificate, marriage license, etc.
  • Passports
  • Deeds, titles and insurance policies to your house and cars
  • Stock and bond certificates
  • Jewelry and other valuable heirlooms
  • Flash drive containing photos and important computer files
