"It’s hard to have a bad day at the lake.”
– Peter Meiusi
Visitors come from Lawrence, Topeka, and across the Kansas City metro to enjoy the lake, connect with friends, and make lasting memories. As the Meiusi’s say, “It’s hard to have a bad day at the lake.”
Together, we build what's next.
When Erin and Peter Meiusi took over Clinton Marina, they weren’t just buying a business, they were investing in a community. With help from a Capitol Federal® commercial loan and their commercial loan officer, their vision for a vibrant lakefront destination became reality.
In this Q&A, they share how their partnership with CapFed® fueled their growth, the advantages of working with a diverse and flexible lending team and why trust matters in choosing a business loan partner.
Tell us about Clinton Marina and what makes it special.
Clinton Marina is more than a boat storage facility. We have docks, a fuel station, a store, a deli and a beer garden. We host fun events like Float Local Fridays with live music, food trucks and family activities.
Kansas doesn’t have a lot of lakes, so this is a hidden gem. We’ve built a place where customers feel like family.

What makes Capitol Federal® different from other banks?
It’s not just a 9-to-5 relationship. Our lenders come out to the marina, sometimes on their personal time. That personal connection builds trust.
They’re big enough to offer large business loans with flexible solutions, but small enough to treat you as a person, not just an account number. Their reputational strength means a lot in the community.

How did your relationship with Capitol Federal® begin?
Five years ago, we were 27 and buying a marina, which wasn’t exactly a simple deal. We talked to several banks, but CapFed stood out. They took the time to understand our vision and the unique challenges of a marina business.
They helped us with the purchase and have financed multiple expansion projects since then. We’ve done a patio addition and new docks with solar panels. They were creative with financing, using tools like SBA loans alongside their own packages.
How important is flexibility in a lender?
Huge. A marina is a niche business with state and federal involvement. CapFed took an educated risk and structured creative deals to make things work.
When we had major storm damage last year, they helped us finance repairs so we could reopen in two weeks instead of months.
What advice do you have for other
entrepreneurs looking for a
small business loan?
Find a lender who will invest in your growth and understand your industry. Be open about your plans early. We bring CapFed in during the concept stage, and it becomes a collaborative process.
What's next for Clinton Marina?
We’re expanding with covered docks to protect boats from the Kansas sun and continuing to innovate for our customers. And we’ll be working with Capitol Federal every step of the way. They’re more than our bank. CapFed is our partner.
