What is Giving Tuesday?
GivingTuesday.org defines the day as an annual occasion celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events - Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Since its inaugural year in 2012, #GivingTuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy. This year, Giving Tuesday will be celebrated on November 29, 2016.
How Can I Participate?
- The great thing about Giving Tuesday is there are several ways to participate.
- Spend the day volunteering for an organization in your community.
- Donate to a charity whose mission has a special place in your heart.
- Share your story of how you have given back to others on social media with the tag #GivingTuesday, to help encourage others to participate and raise awareness.
We recently hosted a Grand Giving contest to give participants the chance to win $1,000 for a local charity and an additional $1,000 for the winners to spend however they like! We’ll be choosing seven winners – one from each of the communities we serve: Kansas City, Lawrence, Topeka, Manhattan, Salina, Wichita and Emporia. On Giving Tuesday, we’ll be sharing some of our winners and the charities they selected to each receive $1,000. Stay tuned to find out who the winners will be!
