The holidays are often referred to as the “season of giving”. It’s also a time of year when many people make end-of-year contributions to charities that are important to them. That desire to give back is how the National Day of Giving, also known as Giving Tuesday, got started.

What is Giving Tuesday?

GivingTuesday.org defines the day as an annual occasion celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events - Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Since its inaugural year in 2012, #GivingTuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy. This year, Giving Tuesday will be celebrated on November 29, 2016.

How Can I Participate?

  • The great thing about Giving Tuesday is there are several ways to participate.

  • Spend the day volunteering for an organization in your community.

  • Donate to a charity whose mission has a special place in your heart.

  • Share your story of how you have given back to others on social media with the tag #GivingTuesday, to help encourage others to participate and raise awareness.
How CapFed® is Celebrating

We recently hosted a Grand Giving contest to give participants the chance to win $1,000 for a local charity and an additional $1,000 for the winners to spend however they like! We’ll be choosing seven winners – one from each of the communities we serve: Kansas City, Lawrence, Topeka, Manhattan, Salina, Wichita and Emporia. On Giving Tuesday, we’ll be sharing some of our winners and the charities they selected to each receive $1,000. Stay tuned to find out who the winners will be!
