If you live around Topeka, it’s your turn for a money-free weekend challenge! To help you get started, here’s a list of fun, free activities in which the entire family can participate. Be sure to come back and tell us in the comments what activities you did!
Research your family tree. Learning about your heritage and investigating family roots is a great way to grow closer as a family. Genealogy websites, such as genealogy.com or ancestry.com are good places to start. You can also contact older relatives and ask them about their knowledge of your family’s history and their memories of long-lost relatives.
Go stargazing. Pick a clear evening and spread a blanket in the backyard for free, beautiful entertainment provided by Mother Nature. If you’re unfamiliar with the locations of constellations and planets, free star maps are available for printing online.
Enjoy a film festival in your own home. Designate a day to watch a marathon of your family’s favorite movies. You can designate a theme such as action flicks or musicals, or just watch a variety. Ask each family member to nominate a movie to be part of the film festival.
Go on a picnic. Pack a lunch and head to the nearest park for a fun, relaxing afternoon. If the weather isn’t cooperating, you can still spread out a blanket and have a picnic in your living room!
