Awards from FHLBank Topeka will support a "JOBS" Grant for Wichita's E.C. Tyree Clinic.
TOPEKA, Kan. – E.C. Tyree Health and Dental Clinic, in partnership with Capitol Federal, has been awarded a $25,000 economic development grant to help fund the Tyree Clinic Capital Expansion project, creating jobs and providing much needed space to care for the uninsured and underinsured within the community.
FHLBank, a wholesale financial institution of which Capitol Federal is a member, awarded the grant through its Joint Opportunities for Building Success (JOBS) program. JOBS helps financial institutions throughout Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma promote jobs and economic growth in their communities.
In response to the growing demand for access to care, the Tyree clinic plans to expand 1,251 square feet and remodel 403 square feet of existing space. The plan is to add a new counseling center, two additional dental operatories, two additional medical exam rooms, a new dental lab, storage, an enlarged waiting room, a new restroom, and electronic dental and medical records systems.
L. Garney Hill, Chief Financial Officer for the Clinic, extended the clinic appreciation by stating, “Once again, Capitol Federal has stepped up to the plate to help us further our commitment to the community of Sedgwick County. This grant will help with the construction of our additional space. The leadership of that great organization sees the importance of our work and has shown it not only through its financial support, but also through use of their employees for assistance with capacity building. We thank Capitol Federal for their tremendous support.”
Capitol Federal chairman, John B. Dicus, remarked, “For more than 25 years, the Tyree Clinic staff and volunteers have worked hard in their belief that everyone should have access to ‘quality’ health care. Capitol Federal is pleased to assist the clinic in its commitment to their neighborhood and to the people who need its services.”
FHLBank Topeka is one of 12 wholesale banks nationwide that provide liquidity and various programs that help community financial institutions meet the residential housing finance and economic development needs of their communities. FHLBank Topeka serves nearly 830 financial institution members in its district of Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma.
