NEWS RELEASE

At the conclusion of its Get and Give promotion, Capitol Federal drew the name of Melissa Marie Lones of Topeka as the winner of a gift of up to $5,000 for energy-efficient home improvements.  As the winner, Mrs. Lones received the opportunity to choose a local 501(c)3 non-profit organization to also receive a $5,000 gift from Capitol Federal in her honor.  Her choice was the United Way of Greater Topeka, which received a surprise visit from Mrs. Lones and representatives of Capitol Federal, including First Vice President Barbara Carswell.

From November 7 through December 9, Capitol Federal invited everyone to register for the gift of up to $5,000 in energy-efficient home improvements and also to strengthen their community with a $5,000 gift in their honor to their favorite local, 501(c)3 organization.   From the more than 5,000 names submitted, Mrs. Lones' name was drawn.

Carswell remarked, "We at Capitol Federal believe homeownership builds a community, and we are excited Mrs. Lones, as a homeowner, will strengthen the value of her neighborhood through the improvements to be made.  We also congratulate Mrs. Lones with her choice of the United Way of Greater Topeka as the recipient of the non-profit $5,000 gift, a gift that will make a real difference in the community, thanks to Mrs. Lones."

“Wow! What a surprise!,” stated Miriam Krehbiel, President and CEO of the United Way of Greater Topeka, following the presentation of a large replica $5,000 Capitol Federal check.  “Joe Aleshire just called to ask to meet with me, not giving any hint of what was to come.  We sincerely thank Mrs. Lones and all of Capitol Federal for this exciting gift.  It will mean so much to the community.  The United Way is truly humbled and grateful for this wonderful gift."

"I am so excited to be a part of presenting $5,000 to the United Way," said Mrs. Lones.  "I could not believe it when Capitol Federal called to say my name was drawn, and as thrilled as I am to be able to make improvements to our home, I am even more thrilled to join Capitol Federal in presenting this gift to the United Way.  I know the funds are in good hands and will do so much to enhance the quality of life within our community."
