NEWS RELEASE
Topeka, KS - During a special awards assembly held on Wednesday, May 23 at Prairie Park Elementary School, 2711 Kensington Road, Capitol Federal joined Prairie Park in honoring its students. Since 1995, Capitol Federal and Prairie Park have served as Partners in Education, working together to enhance the educational skills and development of the students.
Capitol Federal representatives, Betty Hernandez, Susan Parscal and Barent Raye, joined Prairie Park Principal David Williams in presenting awards to the two Outstanding 5th Grade Students, one boy and one girl. Award winners include:
Outstanding 5th Grade Student of the Year: Connor Schmaus
Outstanding 5th Grade Student of the Year: Kaelyn Weiss
Williams expressed his appreciation at having Capitol Federal as an educational partner. “We cannot thank Capitol Federal enough,” he remarked. “Our faculty, students and parents recognize the contribution Capitol Federal and its volunteers make to the education of our youth. We appreciate all that they do.”
Throughout the school year, Capitol Federal employees volunteer their time working with students to help improve their writing and reading ability. The volunteers also participate in several events during the year, such as the book fair, family reading night, field day, and student recognition at the graduation ceremony. In return, students make bookmarks to distribute to Capitol Federal customers, and the Orchestra and Band students perform for Capitol Federal employees at Christmas time.
